Tableau Visuals : Basic Controls
After clicking on Worksheet 1 we can see all the data columns are available on the left side of the page.

Notice how Tableau is capable of identifying the data type in the column for us:
A column with 'World' like icons having locations names. This will be useful for making Map analysis.
The ‘Abc’ columns have categorical data.
The columns with # represent numeric contents.

We can change the column format from numaric to alphabetic too, if requried.

First hand Bar Plot
Let's create our first plot in Tableau.

The Datasets and columns are reflecting on the left side of the page along with the type of column icons.

From the Emp dataset - Drag and drop the categorical column ‘Department’ in the Columns section.
Drag and drop the commission in the Rows.

We can see that Tableau has automatically analysed our selection and the most relevant type of plot is created accordingly.
Add Data Labels
Let's label the sum total value of commission in the plot:

We can use the ‘Show mark Label’ [ T ], from the toolbar at the top of the page, in order to label the total commission value of each bar plot.

OR

We can also label it by dragging the Commission column in the Mark area over the Lebel Icon.

Format Pane
Since we are working on a toy dataset, the figures are small.
We can also format the figures unit and other font settings from the Format option.

-
Right-click on the numerical column in Rows and select 'Format'
-
Click on 'Numbers' in the Default section
-
Select Number (Custom)
-
Select display unit as 'Thousands (K)'.

You can also select if you want to display Decimal places
Category Colours
Drag and drop the Department column over the Color tab in the 'Marks' section and Tableau will show different colours for each category (Department in this case).

Insert Worksheet Tile
Set a suitable tile, that represents your plot, to make it more professional.

Other settings

One can also change the Axis by selecting the 'Swap Rows and Columns' icon from the toolbar.

Arrange the bar plot in Ascending order.

Arrange the plot in Descending order.

You can also change the plot either from the Dropdown list in the 'Marks' section or from the 'Show Me' tab at the top right corner of the page
