Uploading data into Tableau

As illustrated on the Tableau: Installation & Setup page, Tableau Public have a limited number of data formats allowed to be connected/upload whereas Tableau Desktop allows a wide range of data sources.

We can extract the Employee Achievement data, in csv. form, that we customised in MySQL using Emp, Collection & Sales dataset.

Extract SQLCust.report.png

Launch Tableau Public App - 'Text file' option - Select the CSV file that you Exported from MySQL into yoru drive. (The process is same for Tableau Desktop App too.)

You can also upload the 3 csv dataset seperately instead of customising it, if one may require all the fields from all 3 datasets.

Once the 3 separate datasets are uploaded, create the connections using the common content field (Emp_ID in our case).

If you are using Tableau Desktop and want to upload dataset from MySQL directly, follow the below steps to establish a connection between your MySQL database and Tableau:

1.Open Tableau Desktop & Select MySQL.

2.Input Server, Port, Username & password of your MySQL system(Set-up at the time of MySQL installation).

3.Click on signin.

You can see that all reports created in MySQL database are now visible in Tableau.

Don't forget to create Common-Column-connection (Join) in tableau, if you will be using multiple sheets.
